Dec. 09, 2008

Bored...waiting out the last hour and a half before I get to leave work.

This weekend is KC w/ the girls. I'm so excited. I don't remember going to KC around Christmas time before, so that should be fun.

I can't wait for X-mas!! I have (most) all the presents bought and wrapped. I just need to type my letters, mail them out, and find out what to serve at the party....hmmm....

Holy Crap, an Update!!

To much disdain from most, if not all of my family, I have to admit that I am COMPLETELY excited that Barack Obama won the election. That's right, I voted for him. Now, before I start getting hate comments from people, I will say that I was not necessarily ANTI McCain, I just preferred Obama's outlook on some of the issues over his. I think he is a good man who served his country w/ honor and I do not disrespect him. (Sarah Palin, however....).

In other news....well....
Mom is doing well and walking for the most part. All of her treatments are over and now it's the long "getting back to normal" part.

We did get a beagle puppy, Lucy. She is very fun and adorable, and definitly keeps me busy.

Work is the same as ever. Lots of call, occasional bitchy-ness. The usual.

I can't believe it's almost Christmas season! I say almost b/c I haven't started the ritual yet of putting up decorations, shopping, etc. I plan to mail letters to everyone and hopefully put a puppy pic in there...we'll see how that goes.

Overall, not much new. Anything going on w/ anyone else? Questions?

Hmmm....

In regards to my last post:
Thank you Harry and Tina and family for your wise words. I have taken them to heart, and really appreciate your advise.
However, I do have to say one thing to my original commenter: Most people that read my last post did not know what I was referring to. In fact, most of them thought i was writing about work. So thanks for that. REALLY appreciate it.

So what's new?
Well, a couple of weekends ago. Tracy and I got to babysit 3 of our nieces and nephews. Thankfully, our friends Nikki and Autumn were there to help. I had a blast!! The kids were so much fun, and any problems we ran into were b/c kids can be kids sometimes, (i.e. not wanting to go to bed). We went to Gage Park and had a picnic, rode the carousel, rode the train, and played in animal land. Then at home, we had mac and cheese w/ hot dogs for dinner, played outside, watched cartoon movies, did makeovers, etc. etc. The only hard part was that I was on call for work and had to go in a couple of times. But, what do you do?

This past weekend was Memorial Day weekend. Saturday was a BBQ. Sunday, I worked at Med Assist. And Monday was the 3rd annual holiday trip to World's of Fun. Not as many fun pictures this time, but we did discover an awesome pizzeria in Westport, and got tons of things at GREAT prices at the outlet mall....good times....

The house-warming party went well. I really appreciate everyone who came. It was nice to show off the house.

Mom had round 4 of chemo a couple of weeks ago. Still the same, can't really get up and move that well, but her spirit is great, which is the important part, I think.

Many things are planned for the weeks ahead, so hopefully I'll keep up on the writing....hopefully....

I GIVE UP

I'm done trying to please people. I try to be nice, but whatever.

This reminds me of high school. If you have a problem w/ me, tell me to my face. Don't smile and be nice to me and make me think that everything's fine, then turn around and bitch about me to everyone. HOW IS THE PROBLEM SUPPOSED TO BE FIXED IF I DON'T KNOW ABOUT IT?!

URGH!!

You know what? I can't do everything, and I know other people have a lot of stuff going on, but so do I. So fuck niceness. I give up.

Friday Funday

OH WAIT....not so much. Actually, today has not been that bad, especially considering the past week. Crazy things were happened at the ol' hospital. Tuesday, there was a midget couple having "relations" in our waiting room. Wednesday, there was a cluster-fuck of an exam SO bad, I can't even explain it all in writing, but let's just say we all had dreams of murdering a certain doctor that day. Thursday, the heater decided to turn on full blast, AND we did seven cases before 5pm, (normally, we're lucky if we do four). So today was considerably nicer. Except for the cold leg in the ER scare. And I'm on call, so we probably would have been here 'til the wee hours of the morning.

(FYI, a cold leg means somebody has no blood flow to that leg, due to either a clot, or narrowing, or w/e. So that means we would go in and fix it. And usually that means about 2hr long cases, every 12hrs. Fun huh?)

As far as Mom is concerned. I think she is doing well considering. She had her 2nd round of chemo on the 4th, so now she only has 4 more to go. Almost all of her hair is gone now, and LUCKILY she hasn't had any nausea. However, her and I both have low blood pressure, so w/ everything she is going through, her bp is super low, and so when she gets out of bed after laying there for a while, she can't stand or walk for long at all. But luckily, that is the worst thing going on so far. We'll see how it goes.

I hope, (keep fingers crossed), that I get to work on the new house this weekend. Assuming I don't get called in, I will finally clean out the stuff in the garage, and do some other unpacking and what-not. I DO NOT WANT TO MAKE ANY MORE TRIPS TO THE HARDWARE STORE, DAMMIT. Poor Tracy has been working his butt off, but I've been so tired from the shit at work, errands, and helping Mom, that I have no more energy when I get home.

Well....poo....

In lighter news....ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!! KU WON THE NCAA NATIONAL TOURNAMENT!!!! I'm soooooo excited. Plus, Autumn, Rickey, the kids, and I all went to the players parade on Sunday. It was amazing to see a sea of red and blue down Mass & 19th St. ("Gee, I wonder what their school colors are?") It's also nice to see something like this bring people together, even if it's just to buy more crap. Hey, it's good for the economy. But seriously, I do like to see people "root for their boys", as they say, and come together for a common, friendly cause.....ok, cheese over.

Well, seeing as I have 25 minutes left of work, and 3 of my other colleagues have left, I think I'll sign off on this Friday Funday. Hopefully next week will be more of one.

It's been a while

As I watch Billy Mays tell how Mighty Putty is the best product ever, I wonder about my life.

It's Saturday night at 12:14am, I'm alone in my new house, in the dark, drinking champagne, eating a bowl of Butterfinger ice cream, and watching Spongebob. Now let me pause for a moment......

Nope, I've seen this episode.

I honestly can't tell whether I'm happy, or incredibly pathetic.

OH, and don't forget the fact that I'm on call for work, NOT scheduled. In other news, the new house is wonderful. I couldn't be happier. I just can't wait until we STOP going to Lowe's on a daily basis.

You know what? I just got a phone call, and now I'm kinda pissed......So yeah.....I'll finish when I can.

By the numbers

*EDIT* Make that twice undermined today

I promise to put a real entry here soon, I just need some time to put actual thoughts together.
Anyway....

Number of chemo treatments completed: 1 of 6

Number of head scarves cut, ironed, and sewn: 2 of 13

Number of phone calls made for new house changes/transfers, etc.: 6 of 7

Number of people helping us move: 3?

Number of times I've been undermined at work today: 1....so far....and after only half an hour

Amounts of ice cream eaten in the wake of all this:..........I don't even want to know..........

Easy like a Thursday morning

To update or not to update? That is definitely a question. Not necessarily THE question, but a question non-the-less.

This morning....and well, this afternoon too....have been quite nice. The cases went smoothly, the doctors were nice, and everyone got along. This is all nice b/c last night, one of the sales reps took us all out to dinner as a group. And free alcohol = one drunk Heidi. (Don't worry, I wasn't the only one). It wouldn't have been so bad except the wake-up call by my stomach at 2am, so therefore, I'm glad today has gone smoothly.

Oh yeah, it was "Specials" people only....so SHHH. I only say that b/c Cath Lab peeps would be angry....is that sad? I thought so.

Also, today I found out that Eddie Izzard is coming to Kansas City!! We've seen him once before, but we had to drive to Denver to see him, and this time he's only 1.5 hours away!! Imdb him if you don't know who he is. He's hilarious!!

Another sad thing about me: I'm really excited....about going to Target. That's the highlight for me....shopping....yup, really pathetic.

I think it's new phone ringer time. You agree? That's great!

Good news/Bad news

Good News:
Mom's cancer has not spread to her lymphatic system, or any other organs.

Bad News:
There are "micro-particles" of the cancer that were shown in her abdomen so she will have to go through chemo, and possibly radiation, but mostly as a precautionary.

Emotionally, I think she just feels that the important part is over, and we'll do whatever needs to be done to get through this. Thanks again to everyone who's been asking about her.

My aunt Kathy is in town for the week to help take care of her, so that is nice, and EXTREMELY helpful. (Mom's room is clean for the first time in....well....ever).

In other news, I took a sick day yesterday. I woke up and my gut said, "Nope, you're not workin today". Then I slept until 3:00pm. I haven't done that in a long time, but man, did I need it. Lots of stuff happened in the month of February and I think my brain just needed to chill out for a while.

I've been in an insane shopping mood lately. I have this desire to buy like, 10 things that are on sale at Target, but alas, we close on our house this month, so that's, unfortunately, a no-go.

Work is ok today. I think the reason being is that the co-worker I usually nit-pik with is gone today. Good times. And we're, (knock on wood), done for the day. (Hence, the time allowed for updating). I suppose I should utilize this time to clean out my bags/purse, but we'll see how that goes. The internet seems more important for the moment.

Anything new w/ anyone else?

Bloggetty blog blog

1. I do not like being sick, but I do like codiene.

2. I do not like getting in arguments w/ coworkers.

3. Mom's surgery went well. As far as the doctor could see, there is no cancer anywhere else, but we need to wait for the biopsy results, which we should get sometime next week.

She feels ok, but is in some pain, of course. She can get up and walk places on her own, it just takes time. She is going home today and can't wait.

4. The house inspection was Tuesday, and went well. As far as we know, we still move in on the 23rd of March. I'm definitely excited, and can't wait.

5. The team page for the Real Life Superheroes team is up again for this year, and I am a co-captain w/ Shannon again. The site is:

http://teams.lightthenight.org/RealLifeSuperheroes_WashburnUniversity

6. To clarify, in my last post it APPARTENTLY sounded like I was upset about missing the circus, B/C it was the circus. FOR THE RECORD, I love my nieces and nephews very much and was sad I didn't get to see them either. Better Tracy?

7. I saw the new show "Quarterlife" the other day. Yes, I loved it. However, I can not wait for my other shows to return. SO glad the writer's strike is over!

8. I WANT A DOG REALLY BAD.

W/ everything going on lately, all I really want is a nap, and to watch my recorded Project Runway, and this chair.

Thank you Steve Martin.

In a fog

First of all, thanks to all of you for your kind words. It means a lot to me, and my mother is very appreciative as well.

As a lot of you know, I have tried to implement this idea of "Friday Funday" at work. It's the idea that no matter what happens, Friday should be a nice time for all b/c the weekend is coming up. Last week was the perfect example of this. We had a nice schedule, we printed off funny pictures of the docs, I rocked out to "99 Luft Balloons", AND they had chocolate chip pancakes in the cafeteria. Good times.

This week however....not so much. I was late to work, and when I went to tell my boss that I was there, she sent me home due to not feeling well. I ended up w/ a 101 degree fever and slept until 5:30, (the time I would have LEFT work). I dubbed it "Friday Phlegmday" accordingly.

Now, due to said illness, I get to miss going to the circus w/ my nieces and nephews. That makes me sad inside. I like the circus.

Well, as soon as I figure this picture thing out, I'll post some pics.

BLAH.

Here I go again

So I'm here, writing again. Wanna fight about it?

Yeah....I didn't think so.

So while I've dabbled in the likes of Xanga, Facebook, and MySpace, I have decided to try here, (Mind you, I decided this BEFORE Shannon, but it does work out nicely). I like this so far b/c it's just writing and pics....nice and simple. (Also, this site isn't blocked from work yet, hooray!). Although, I do come across a small writing block now and then. Ya see, I normally have all of these creative ideas and thoughts flowing from the top of my head like hair from a model in a Pantene commercial. Problem is, they usually diplay themselves as crap when I try to put them in words. Example:

Thought:
The quadratic formula is x= -b +/- the square root of b^2 -4ac, all divided by 2a

Word form:
Cheeseburger

Anyway, I'll try again for your entertainment, so enjoy.

New things in my life:
Recently we have found out that my mother has a rare form of uterine cancer. The hysterectomy w/ bilateral salpingo-oopherectomy is Monday. They will also sample her lymph nodes at that time to see if anything has spread. Luckily, according to her CT scan, there is nothing in her other organs so far, so that is good news all around. We'll just have to see from there.

Am I scared? Of course! I mean, this is my MOTHER we're talking about. Until I was ten years old, it was just me and her. Then g-pa was there too, but he wasn't the one to come to all my school plays, take me to all my dance practices, buy me that perfect trumpet I had to have for band, and explain to me all the "wonderful" joys of womenhood. I love my mom very much, and as much as she's always been there for me, it's my turn to be there for her.

Wow....I have said that sentence WAY too much lately. (Nikki, I believe you know what I mean).

Strangely, I have now found myself making a lot of little peach support ribbons. I say strangely b/c it was exactly a year ago that I started making little green and orange support ribbons. I don't plan on selling the peach ones, just wearing them and giving them to anyone else who wants to wear one. I still plan on doing all of the LNT fundraising for Leukemia and Lymphoma. I have devoted too much time and energy to them and don't plan on stopping. Too many people are dealing w/ those cancers too and I don't feel like abandoning them. I will just be here to support my mother and others like her at the same time.

In other news, for those of you who don't know, we bought a house! We move in in late March. I can't wait, and I promise to post some pics up soon, (You know, when I'm not at work).

Those are the important things at this very moment, but I'm sure 2008 has a lot more to offer. Although, it's already dealt quite a bit out in January and February. A lot of drama goin' around, both good and bad. Dammit! I'm only 24 years old!

Ok....I'm done now, I swear.
